Pearson iLitU
Best Practices Professional Development Program
Nationwide
Description

The iLit University is a specialized professional development network of administrators and teachers who utilize Pearson’s digital literacy solution, iLit. Created in 2015, the iLitU enables educators from across the country to gain best practice skills, as well as to hear from noted authors, including Freddy Hiebert, Bill Brozo, Jim Cummins, and Sharon Vaughn. Exemplary iLit programs were also spotlighted for their significant gains in student achievement. Teachers, such as, Milissa Crum from Anderson Community Schools in Indiana, showcased how they were using iLit to motivate students to become successful readers. In my role, as an Educational Specialist for Pearson, I came up with the idea of the iLitU to serve as a powerful connector for iLit educators, so that innovative strategies could be easily shared. Through the assistance of my fellow Pearson colleagues, the iLitU was successfully put into practice and promoted the latest research studies on the needs of struggling readers, as well as showcased promising practices.
